Biography

Natalya Muradova was born on October 10, 1946, in Lodz, Poland.
From 1966 to 1971, she studied at the Moscow Textile Institute, under such teachers as Honored Artist of the RSFSR N. M. Zhovtis (1921–2010) and member of the USSR Artists' Union V. N. Kozlov (1923–1988). She defended her diploma project at the Moscow Silk Factory named after Rosa Luxemburg.
Since 1978, Muradova has been a regular participant in Moscow, Russian, Soviet, and international art exhibitions held in the USA, Australia, Norway, Korea, and Japan. Her solo exhibitions in contemporary textile competitions were held at the Textile Museum in Poland, twice at the State Historical, Architectural, Artistic, and Landscape Museum-Reserve "Tsaritsyno", in 2011 at the School of Dramatic Art, in 2013 at the art halls of the Russian Academy of Arts under the title "Light and Color. Textile Stories and Fantasies in Glass," in 2014 at the All-Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art under the title "The Shine of Glass and Softness of Fabric," and in 2016 at the Muravyov-Apostol estate in Moscow titled "Spectacle and Sounds."
The main part of her creative activity was devoted to artistic decoration with textile art for important cultural and state sites, museums, and theaters, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the Senate Palace (the working residence of the President of Russia in the Kremlin), the USSR Embassy in Paris, and the Olympic Village. Muradova created such works as the tapestries "Coat of Arms," "Moscow's Radiance," and "Park" for the President's residence in the Kremlin's Senate Palace; "Three Centuries of Russian Culture" for the interiors of the Tretyakov Gallery; "Time," "Balance," "Moscow - Capital of Cultural Events," and a series of eight tapestries "Russia" for the stage of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation; the wall panel "Rest (Park)" for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia; the stage curtain "Firebird" for the Bryansk Regional Philharmonic; a series of four tapestries "Venetian Carnival"; textile compositions "In the Remnants of a Dream, Reality Was Born," "The Book Will Not Die. The Novel Will Be Read," and "The Terror and Delight of the Great City" for the Museum of Arts and Design in the USA.

Her vision of her creative path is expressed in her own words:
The works of Muradova are held in various museums in Russia and worldwide, including the All-Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art, Aubusson Tapestry Factory Museum in France, and the Museum of Arts & Design and Two Columbus Circle in the USA.
Muradova was awarded the Moscow Union of Artists Prize “For Best Work of the Year” in 1987, 1988, and 1989.

Since 1996, she has served as Russia’s consultant at the Triennale of Tapestry in the Textile Industry Museum, Lodz. Besides her creative activity, Muradova is also engaged in teaching—she lectures at the Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry.
In 2010, she was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts from the Decorative Arts Division.
