Evgeny Sergeevich Vakhtangov
Evgeny Sergeevich Vakhtangov (December 15, 1942, Omsk, RSFSR, USSR – June 19, 2018, Moscow, Russia) was a Soviet and Russian artist, academician of the Russian Academy of Arts (2012). He was the son of S. E. Vakhtangov and the grandson of E. B. Vakhtangov.
Biography
He was born on December 15, 1942, in Omsk (where the Vakhtangov Theater was evacuated). In 1970, he graduated from the Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute, under the studio of M. M. Kurilko. Since 1974, he was a member of the Moscow Union of Artists. From 1995 to 2011, he taught painting at the stage design department of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS). In 2012, he was elected academician of the Russian Academy of Arts from the Painting Department. He passed away on June 19, 2018. He is buried in Moscow at the Novodevichy Cemetery next to his family (plot 2-11-22).
Creative activity
Major projects and artworks: "Festive Evening" (1976), "Crying" (1988), "Gorky Street" (1981-1984), "Night. Red Square" (1987), "Everything Will Be Fine" (2006), "Modern" (1993), "Cataclysm" (1993), "Spontansur No. 10" (1991), "Price Tags-2" (2006). His works are held in the collections of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, and others.
