Valery Vasilievich Gazukin
Born on December 4, 1951 in Orenburg.
In 1974, he graduated from the Art and Graphic Faculty of the Leningrad State Pedagogical Institute named after A.I. Herzen.

His works are held in the Orenburg Regional Museum of Fine Arts, the Perm State Art Gallery, and in private collections in Russia, Poland, Hungary, the United Kingdom, France, Finland, Germany, and Canada.

Author about himself
My main method is working from life. I consider color to be the most expressive means in visual art. I am fascinated by the development of color space. I love and study rural icons and folk prints (lubok).
Critic
The viewer first notices in Gazukin's paintings the flat, almost poster-like play of silhouettes, the rhythmic beauty of harmoniously arranged color patches; later, attentive viewers discover the subtle nuances of color and the thoughtful play of soft, airy color shades—'valeurs'—that give each color spatial depth and inner richness. Finally, a sensitive eye realizes what was subconsciously perceived at first glance: the humanistic content of Valery Gazukin's works is not found in the likenesses of human figures—riders or wanderers—or in the stylized figures with tiny white or yellow circles instead of heads, but in the whole ensemble of silhouettes, flexible and confidently drawn lines, pure, clear colors enriched with subtle nuances—in other words, in the world of great artistic symbols.
