Author about himself

Nature, the universe in its infinity, man, and struggle – these are my themes. To find and define my own world of images in abstract painting, possessing a high level of plastic culture, is my goal. The idea of my abstract forms originates from phenomena of nature, and also contains the inherent 'informalism' interpretation of painting as an art of psychic improvisation. I experiment with various materials, combining figurative and abstract elements...

Critic

..."And although G. Zautashvili's painting is painting (let us not be confused by this tautology), I think that in exhibiting his works at the Museum of Musical Culture, there is, aside from mere chance, a deep rationale: his art continues the high tradition of interconnection between musical and plastic cultures in the twentieth century."
L. Bazhanov
..."In the most delicate structure of his painting, in the painting technique, in the asymmetrical balance of color forms, one can trace... a 'pure' painter who seeks to use painting to express the essence of things. In Gela's works there is always a certain connection with reality. The viewer unexpectedly discerns individual 'objects'—more precisely, hints of them: a bird, a tree, a cloud, silhouettes of ancient temples—and then everything dissolves again into infinity."
