Author about himself

I have an urge to explore materials born of fire (black metal, ceramics, glass, colored metals). I am capable of combining these materials and using them in combination with other materials to solve the problems of connecting the real environment with that artificially created according to the laws of beauty.

Critic

...The desire of the author to work in architectural space determined his creative search. He turned to the creation of monumental-decorative objects: reliefs, stained glass windows, light-plastic objects, luminous stained glass paintings. In the 1980s, Ryleyev decorated dozens of public interior spaces in Yoshkar-Ola, Zheleznogorsk, Arkhangelsk, Moscow, Sochi, and others. His works, due to the strength of their plastic impact, are dominant objects in each architectural space. The universality of the author is shown in his constant expansion of boundaries, types, and genres of art, as well as his appeal to different materials, which he explores with the greed of an experimenter and the thoroughness of a craftsman. Ceramics and glass, wood and metal, plastics pass through the hands of the artist, in whose works seemingly incompatible elements are measured, harmonized. In the late 1980s, A. Ryleyev turned to glass and discovered a new world of glass sculpture. The compositions "Male Heads", "Saint Sebastian" (1990-1991), created using slumped glass, received recognition at exhibitions in Russia, in Erfurt (Configura-91), in the Netherlands, and in Sweden. The sculptural power of the modeling, the contrasts of textures, light, technical sophistication combined with large dimensions (the sculptures are installed on high column pedestals) distinguish the works of Alexander Ryleyev in the broad spectrum of the artistic glass movement.
