Andrey Nikolayevich Krasulin
Andrey Nikolayevich Krasulin (born October 20, 1934, Moscow) is a Russian and Soviet sculptor. He is married to writer Lyudmila Ulitskaya.
Biography
Krasulin was born on October 20, 1934, in Moscow. From 1944 to 1954, he studied at a secondary art school. Between 1954 and 1960, he attended the Moscow Higher School of Industrial Art, where his teachers included E. F. Belashova and S. L. Rabinovich. For a long period, he worked as a monumental sculptor. Since the 1980s, he has largely focused on wood sculpture. Currently, Krasulin works with various materials: metal, wood, and paper, and is also engaged in painting and graphic art.
According to art historian Galina Yelshevskaya, Krasulin "sees himself as the creator of an environment composed of objects whose main purpose is to fill a metaphysical void." Krasulin's art is considered a development of the organic tradition of the Russian avant-garde, led by Mikhail Matyushin, since the sculptor is interested in the natural beauty of everyday things.
Krasulin's works are held at the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, the Museum of Nonconformism, art museums in many Russian cities, and the Ludwig Museum (Aachen, Germany).
