Author about himself
There are several recurring provocative ideas behind my recent works, which often differ from each other:
- Hierarchical organization, layering, fragmentation, and the connection between 'above' and 'below'.
- The structure and symbolic role of light, the idea of emanation. The expressive corporeality of painting becomes merely a step toward the pure abstraction of light.
- The notion of human conditioning, inadequacy and homelessness in the world, and therefore – the search for a fleeting point 'between nothing and everything', a struggle against the complacency and self-sufficiency of the painted surface, the collision of painting with bare construction, which further emphasizes its conventionality, the displacement of 'pictorialness' by the object, where the ideas of layering and system of levels are literally materialized. Arvo Pärt’s words about the 'voluntary poverty' of his art seem close and understandable to me.
Critic
For Yevgeny Gor, the very process of painting becomes the construction of a new world, the world of the picture, directed into its frame, not copying reality but, in some ways, countering it. Each of his compositions vividly demonstrates the path of its creation. It is akin to an X-ray of the artist’s inner world, where the material is understood as actively as the reality of experience. The ritual of painting for him embodies the miracle of painting, a sacred performance of inspired execution—the spiritual essence becomes inseparable from the physicality of the artistic gesture, its ability to affect not only visual perceptions but also tactile and energetic senses.
