Contemporary artistic life can be compared to a supersaturated solution—the number of stylistic trends, creative positions, and individual manners per unit of space and time seems to have reached its conceivable limit. To invent something extraordinary, to introduce a particular compositional or plastic move into professional practice, let alone to "launch" a new style, appears in such circumstances to be an almost hopeless endeavor. Nevertheless, Alexander Zosimov can be ranked among such pioneers. He is the originator of an original stylistic phenomenon—the architectural version of Sots Art. The basis of his creative method is collage, combining the incompatible—heterogeneous contexts, typically borrowed from old magazine archives. As for topics, here we see carnival inversion of the inanities of fossilized Soviet ideology (primarily in its socialist realist guise), purely formal exploration, and even, in Alexander’s own words, 'just whimsy.' Preceding this, by his own admission, was his student acquaintance with R. Venturi’s book 'Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture', the bible of postmodernism. Then, for the first time, came the liberating salvation from entrenched professional complexes.
