From the Swan Service of Meissen, a strongly relief-plastic wave-shaped pedestal rises irregularly, fully plasticized, depicting the bearded sea god Glaukos with long hair hanging over his shoulder and a relief-like scaled fish tail spiraling upwards as a carrier of a curved pedestal. The shell-shaped, floral pierced corpus with a large rolled snail. Polychrome painting with gold staffage. Combed gold edge. Either Johann Joachim Kaendler and Johann Friedrich Eberlein, 1738/1739. Model number 80501. Sword mark. H. 47 cm. The basic idea for this design comes from a model designed by J.J. Kaendler in December 1737 for an étagère, on the lowest level of which the figure of a Glaukos sat in a shell and carried a candy dish on its head. The original centerpiece with color staffage for this design was located in the porcelain collection in Dresden, but has been missing since 1945.
