The sculpture "Militia Woman," created by Natalia Danyko in 1920, is part of a series of works by the author dedicated to revolutionary propaganda themes. The Soviet state sought to utilize the propaganda potential of art to promote the new order and its ideological values.

The author of the design and form, Danyko Natalia Yakovlevna (1894-1942) was a Soviet sculptor and ceramicist who worked in the sculpture workshop of the Leningrad Porcelain Factory (LFZ) since 1914. She was invited by V. Kuznetsov, who by that time had begun to head the sculpture department of the factory. The political changes in the country in 1917 forced Danyko and other factory workers to shift their focus to new revolutionary propaganda themes. During this period, N. Danyko created works such as "Partisan in the March," "Embroidering the Banner," "Militia Woman," "Sailor with the Flag," and "Worker Woman Giving a Speech." From 1919, Natalia Danyko was appointed head of the sculpture workshop at the factory, and from 1931, she was also responsible for the production of sculpture for export. Throughout her creative career, Danyko produced over 300 socially-oriented and patriotic porcelain figures and compositions.
