Long oval, flatly domed, internally shell-like ribbed feather scale, surrounded by relief-plastic leaf tendrils. In the center, mounted between plastic-applied rose buds and leaves, is a inkwell in the shape of a blooming rose with a corresponding relief-decorated lid, figuratively crowned by a seated boy and a girl whispering something in her ear. Paul Helmig (1859-1939), who already visited the drawing school of the Meissen manufactory in the early years, worked as a modeler in Meissen from 1882 until his retirement in 1925. He created numerous models for figures as well as decorative vessels, clock cases, and mirrors with rich figurative design, initially in the style of Neo-Rococo, later in the forms of Art Nouveau.
