19th century Russian icon "Pokrov of the Most Holy Theotokos" or "Mother of God Protectress". Tempera on wooden panel. Silver. It has a 19th century silver frame. Dimensions: 31 x 27 cm. "Mother of God Protectress" is one of the iconographies of the Russian Orthodox Church, although it describes events that took place in Constantinople around 910 AD. Presumably, the story was taken from the biography of Andrew of Constantinople.
