From the figurative table decoration "Birth of Beauty" in white porcelain. Mounted on an irregular, molded base with plastic ascending waves, a naked Nereid with curly hair rides on a rearing hippocampus. Sitting on a cushion and holding onto the neck of the hybrid creature. Possibly Paul Scheurich, around 1939/40. Marked with a scepter. Height 41 cm, length 48 cm. The multipart table decoration "The Birth of Beauty" made of sea creatures in white porcelain was one of the major commissioned works in the last creative period of Paul Scheurich. Between 1939 and 1940, he designed it for the Reich Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop. Due to a prolonged illness, Scheurich was unable to complete the table decoration entirely. Some design drawings are preserved in the archive of KPM Berlin, including the one of the "Naiad".
